Microsoft 365 Implementation for Fabrikam Inc.

Project Overview:

In this lab scenario I was engaged by Fabrikam Inc. to migrate their IT infrastructure to Microsoft 365 and configure Exchange Online to support their business operations. I was responsible for setting up the tenant, configuring user accounts, creating security policies, and ensuring compliance with business and security requirements.

 

Key Tasks and Accomplishments:

Tenant Setup & User Management

  • Provisioned a new Microsoft 365 tenant.
  • Created 15 individual user accounts with Exchange Online mailboxes.
  • Populated the address book with detailed user information, including job titles, departments, cities, and countries.

Group & Mailbox Configuration

  • Configured email groups for:
    • Each department.
    • Each city where the company operates.
    • All employees, with restricted sending permissions limited to the HR Manager and General Manager.
  • Created and configured resource mailboxes for meeting rooms:
    • Toronto Room: Restricted meeting length to 1 hour.
    • Vancouver Room: Implemented approval workflow by the administrative assistant.

Shared Mailbox for Marketing Team

  • Configured a shared mailbox.
  • Granted access to the Marketing Team only, ensuring data security and proper access control.

Email Security & Compliance Policies

  • Implemented a mandatory legal disclaimer for all outbound emails.
  • Whitelisted the northwind.com domain to prevent email filtering from blocking key business communications.
  • Configured mail filtering to block risky file types, including .ps1 files, enhancing email security.
